We are seeking a driven, experienced, and self-starting professional to join our growing global Corporate Affairs team.

The past few years have seen rapid growth and both newfound opportunities and challenges for Velcro Companies. In pursuing its global ambitions, the company has identified the need to strengthen its global communications, engagement and reputation stewardship capabilities and align them more closely with its corporate strategy.

Moreover, reputational challenges have become more complex in view of Velcro Companies’ growing global operations and product offering, the range of markets it serves, and its varied distribution channels. To address the needs of its fast-evolving business, Velcro Companies is developing a Corporate Affairs function to support the strategy of this technologically advanced manufacturer with operations in 20 countries.

The Corporate Affairs function, once fully developed, will comprise Corporate Communications (incl media relations), Public Affairs (incl lobbying), Internal Communications, Crisis Management (incl corporate preparedness and response), Reputation Risk (incl monitoring and response), and Corporate Responsibility (incl corporate approach and stakeholder engagement).

Well-qualified candidates should possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills; effective counselling and influencing abilities; a capacity to work both at the high level conceptual and strategic level, as well as the tactical and facility-floor level. Candidates should also be conversant with global best practices in global communications, engagement and reputation stewardship, in different countries and cultures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the London-based Internal Communications Manager (IC), reporting to the Director of IC (Boston, MA).
  • Work with the Director of IC to create a world-class IC function, building on previously decentralized and limited activities. Support the transformation of employee communications to an efficient, meaningful contact strategy using relevant channels to achieve the desired level of engagement over time.

  • Advise and support the senior leadership team, as well as a team of Corporate Affairs business partners located across the group’s regions.
  • Partner with the HR organisation, aligning and supporting wider human capital strategies.
  • Support the activation of Velcro Companies’ corporate character – its essential identity infused into its mission, purpose, brand, strategy and culture.

  • Support the development and delivery of Velcro Companies’ global employee engagement strategy; engage with internal stakeholders to build shared belief, spur them to action, earn their confidence and motivate them to advocate on the groups’ behalf.

  • Support the design and implementation of creative two-way communications programs and activities that help generate understanding of purpose, values and business priorities, and increase employee alignment and commitment to the group.
  • Support the group’s annual Employee Engagement Survey, including all related communications and coordinate management’s follow-through, in partnership with HR.
  • Support the plan and execute the launch and adoption of MS Yammer as the primary employee engagement digital channel, including the development and relaunch of employee engagement functions of MS SharePoint.
  • Support the building and management (with the regionally-based Corporate Affairs Business Partners) of a network of relationships to help identify IC issues / messages, to deliver tactical IC campaigns and activities, to measure feedback and message effectiveness, and to ensure appropriate plans and actions are in place.
  • Support the change management and transformation plans aimed at all internal stakeholders and target audiences.
  • Build deep cross-business relationships to ensure business salience, identify key priorities and drive an integrated approach to all engagement activity.
  • Measure the impact and efficiency of IC activities to demonstrate value creation, and develop and implement continuous improvement plans.
  • Support issues and crisis management planning and preparedness, horizon monitoring and scenario planning for business leadership, and corporate crisis response and recovery.
  • 5+ years’ experience in internal communications (IC)

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting, or within a business with the majority of its employees working at operational sites

  • Experience globally; notably NAM, EMEA, LATAM & APAC an advantage

  • Proficiency in best practice approaches to reputation stewardship (monitoring, analyzing, protecting and growing)

  • Experience in developing and implementing IC and engagement programs that support business goals

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues at all level of an organization, through a variety of channels

  • Proven ability to work on highly sensitive issues, and protect confidential information

  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills

  • Exceptional project management and multi-tasking skills

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft office programs with advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word and Excel

  • Strong proficiency in social media channels

  • Working proficiency of reputation / digital monitoring tools, and stakeholder CRM / database tools

  • Experience in developing and launching digital workplace and engagement platforms, and adoption strategies.

  • English language skills equivalent to native proficiency

  • Spanish or Mandarin language skills equivalent to business proficiency an advantage

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree an advantage)

  • 20% International Travel Required
